Negroni
By Culiora

Equal parts gin, Campari and sweet vermouth stirred over large ice cubes in a lowball glass until well chilled, with orange zest twisted over the drink.
- Servings: 1
- Prep time: 5 min
- Total time: 5 min
Ingredients
- 3 cl gin (preferably an aromatic premium gin)
- 3 cl Campari
- 3 cl sweet vermouth (e.g. Carpano Antica or Martini Riserva)
- Ice (large cubes)
- Orange zest (not just a slice – essential for the flavour)
Instructions
- Fill a rocks glass with large ice cubes.
- Pour the gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth directly into the glass.
- Stir gently for about 20–30 seconds until the drink is thoroughly chilled and slightly diluted.
- Take a strip of orange peel and express it over the glass to release the oils across the drink.
- Rub the peel around the rim of the glass and drop it into the drink.
- Serve immediately.
- Pro bar tips that make the difference: Stir, don't shake – a Negroni should be crystal clear and elegant. Quality vermouth elevates the drink immensely (this is often what sets a cocktail bar apart from home mixing). Orange zest is far more important than an orange slice – it provides essential aroma, not just decoration. To soften the bitterness: try 2.5 cl Campari instead of 3 cl.
